The majority of Kenyans, especially those living in metropolitan areas, rely on gas cylinders. Kenyans will need to shoulder the cost and dig deep into their pockets to cover the refilling fees due to the increase in gas cylinder pricing.
A 35 kg gas cylinder will cost Kenyans 8760 shillings to refill. The cylinder now costs 569 more than when it was previously sold for 8,191 shillings.
Kenyans will be forced to pay more for a 13 kg gas cylinder. The price of the cylinder has increased from 3,000 Kenyan shillings to 3,300 Kenyan shillings as a result of the additional charges. This shows a 300-shilling increase on the 13 kg cooking gas cylinder.
Retail price for the 6 kilogram cooking gas cylinder is 1,500 shillings. This came after it rose from the initial retail price of 1000 shillings. This is a 500 shilling increase.
The prices of these cooking gas cylinders are alarming, and Kenyans are left with no choice but to renew the gas or find alternative cooking methods.
